Registry Data Highlights Urgent Health Priorities for Women Veterans Exposed to Burn Pits
At Burn Pits 360, our mission has always centered on ensuring that every Veteran impacted by toxic exposure is seen, heard, and supported. As part of that commitment, we are proud to release our latest findings on a deeply overlooked group—women Veterans affected by burn pit exposure.
While women make up a growing share of the military, their experiences with toxic exposure are often misunderstood, under-researched, and underrepresented in both clinical settings and policy discussions. Our independent registry data reveals concerning trends:
-
67% of women reported respiratory symptoms,
-
11% reported a cancer diagnosis,
-
and many face barriers to proper diagnosis, care, and recognition of their conditions.
This report outlines key issues unique to women, including reproductive health risks, misdiagnoses, lack of gender-specific care at VA facilities, and higher rates of mental health challenges such as PTSD and military sexual trauma (MST). It also calls attention to the urgent need for inclusive research, equitable policy, and outreach efforts that reflect women’s distinct health realities.
Women Veterans are not an afterthought in the fight for justice—they are at the forefront. Burn Pits 360 is committed to lifting their voices, expanding access to care, and ensuring toxic exposure policies and benefits work for everyone who served.
